Due to the ongoing restrictions as a result of Covid-19, we reluctantly confirm that there will be no PACE pantomime in December 2020. We have been closely monitoring the situation, but with uncertainty concerning timescales for the easing of restrictions, alongside the measures required to maintain social distancing, it is simply not viable for our planned production to go ahead.
PACE has produced Paisley’s annual family panto in partnership with Renfrewshire Council for 32 years, and it is hugely disappointing that this will be the first year without one since 1988. However, the safety and enjoyment of our audiences is paramount to us and we feel that in current circumstances we would not be able to ensure the quality experience that our audiences have come to expect.
In addition, one of the unique characteristics of our panto is that it ordinarily features a Youth Cast of up to 120 young people getting their first taste of a professional performance, and we take our responsibility of care towards these young people and our staff very seriously. Whilst this is undoubtedly a hard decision to make, we know that it is the right one and we’re looking forward to being able to come back bigger and better next year.
As a registered charity, we are hugely dependent on ticket sales to subsidise the work we do with young people throughout the year. Over 95% of our income comes from ticket sales and fees, meaning that we have been especially hard hit during the pandemic, and the loss of panto from our schedule will leave a massive hole in our funds.
