The title fits this Post and the picture tells its own coming tale.
Already the PACE team has begun its prep for Sleeping Beauty – the PACE Panto for 2015!
…Which seems bizarre in July , ( even though the weather is absolutely autumnal ) to be talking about Christmas and all …but …this is really when a lot of the foundation work for Panto is laid.
David and I met the set designer yesterday and we agreed the concept for this year’s show – hard to follow the majesty of last year’s “Beast” of a show but I think this little Beauty ( sleeping as she currently may be ) is going to hold her own unique kind of magic !
All will be revealed in time …
( but so glad Mahonia carries a “floral Faery” theme because it has made conjuring ideas for these characters so much easier …)
But to my post point :
As I begin the process of putting the 4 panto teams together , I look now for the 4 inspiring leaders who will work closely with me , to bring this 26th PACE Panto to the Arts Centre stage.
The team members will doubtless be easier to source – although smaller cast sizes are “in” this year , we have enough good young talent in our current midst to present a professional and energetic Panto chorus ( if once again , a little boy light ! )
Team leaders are however , a breed apart , and I look for many things when putting them in place – that is giving them the huge responsibility of leading 18 others into acting battle.
So what do I need ?
Performance excellence is paramount – a team will only rise to the top – if the leader already stands there – directs from on high – how else are they to ever raise the bar for their troops to climb over ?
The ability to discipline your peers is the other – no team will ever benefit from a sole diet of ” being their friend ” – you all want to be liked at your age …but being liked and being respected is the thin line that only few here , can handle walking.
You have to know when to be hard and when to be kind , when to laugh and when to get down to the really hard work of becoming better
…to maturely take responsibility as one for the poorer effort of others…to be honest enough to admit when you are wrong and to know instinctively how to set things right .
Panto Leaders are heroes but leaders need to be performance brave.
Yes – Panto is fun fun fun ….
But the fun comes after the show is there and the run practically over.
Your team need to know that , because you know that – for the best of reasons – and can make the team feel okay , that it’s the ” better way “.
Anyway “Fun” is such an underwhelming word to describe what PACE Panto is all about – don’t you think ?
…until you live it you’ll never know how much you come to love it…the thing that brings you back each year – for more !
I always think there are two types of PACE people in Panto :
Those that ” do it ”
Those that “get it ”
Team leaders have to ” get it ” and this , more than anything else is the criteria I look for and will need to see more innately …when you come knocking at the SB15 door .
A bit of Drama working in weekend PACE drama groups is one thing …leading a pro panto team – quite a performance other.
The distinction is in the way you professionally manage the expectations you have for yourself and your team.
Set out to be the best in all things – and you will , and your team will thank you for it.
People follow leaders who inspire them …they may not always like them …but they know that they will do everything they can to draw out ” the best “.
This particular director is case in point !
(and why many fear to come her way …)
But let’s not dwell on ” the maybes” and start working for the “yes pleases”
If you think this is the year for you to lead or perhaps depute lead a team through Panto – email me:
(By Friday 17th August)
In the email you may also want to include relevant experience and your reasons for applying for these positions …professional mindset , means professional attitude.
You ideally must be S4-6 but we have had S3 undertake depute leadership roles successfully in the past and these younger DL’s have gathered invaluable experience from working with older team leaders in a performance partnership for many subsequent projects.
You should consider time committment – although rehearsals begin mid September – it is a longer haul through till the end of December, when this run completes.
If you contact me and I feel you are not ready for this responsibility I will be honest enough to explain to you why and you should not let this deter you from showing an interest – nothing ventured remember !
I look forward to having my 4 potential Captains email me over the coming weeks
Once you are set in stage stone …Sleeping Beauty 15 will awaken and the magic ” naturally ” begin ….
