Welcome to Angus’s Space….
The earth without art is just eh
Firstly, I would like to mention how English isn’t my strongest subject and this kind of thing isn’t really anything I would do in my spare time, because writing really isn’t one of my hobbies. Me and big words don’t really go together, like this bad boy – floccinaucinihilipilification – Referring to something of little or no value. If I’m being honest I just wanted to show off that I knew the meaning to that word (but we’ll keep that between us). Anyway, blogs, b-l-o-g. They are an informational site or a discussion posted on the World Wide Web. I think mine will be more on the discussiony side. Now onwards to the subject of the blog!
The world without art is just eh. Yes because if you take the A the R and the T out you are left with the letters E and H which combine to create the word eh. Simple. That is if you’re looking at it very literally. But if you are going to look at it as our planet with no art then that takes a little more thinking. I think if you were to deny the world of any kind of art form it would create a dystopian world that would leave the entire human race with a blank expression on their face devoid of all emotion all muttering in a monotonous tone the word eh. This is because I believe that art teaches is all that life has to offer. I believe that art is a fountain of knowledge that allows us to accentuate the most positive parts of ourselves and it allows us to showcase the worst most vulnerable parts of ourselves and let’s us find a way of fixing such problems.
For example, an art form that has captivated me this summer (as it always does) is literature. I have just finished reading the fantastic novel To kill a mockingbird (highly recommend that you read this book if you haven’t already.) This novel teaches many things one of the most important messages from the novel is to basically not be prejudice towards people because of their race or social standing etc. This is just an example – only one novel in one type of art that teaches a very important message. Think of all the art that there has ever been in the world. Every single painting, book, play etc that there has ever been. All of these have a message and a lesson about our world and our race. Without all of these messages and these lessons, the world would be a far less interesting place. Also, art is an exceptionally interesting and enjoyable thing that can spark heated debates and can absorb peoples entire lives. Although the world would not perhaps be completely devoid of all knowledge with everyone going around looking at trees trying to figure out what they are. There would still be raw scientific knowledge. I still thin that a lot of breakthroughs would not have happened without a spark of creativity that had been initiated by being surrounded by the arts. The world would be missing that edge that excitement. It would not be the wonderful an colourful place that it is now. It wouldn’t be full of amazing people and it would not have such a rich culture and history. It would be a very boring place for sure.
If I was to sum art up for me personally. I would have to relate it to being on stage. It’s the feeling that you get when you are on stage and you get that electric feeling in the air, that buzz that you feel. It’s the moment you come off stage and you remember the feeling and have a vague sense of what happened and you know what happened because of months of rehearsal tell you exactly what happened but you can’t quite remember exactly what actually transpired out there when the lights were on you and the audience were in their seats listening intently and you and your fellow actors were working to keep them like that and to make each other better. But it is just a feeling, just a vague memory of what happened. A buzz in the air that courses through your veins and gives you that feeling in your stomach that tingles through your body and is just electric and when you remember that feeling but you can’t quite put it into words like just now I haven’t quite described what I mean because I can’t quite describe what I mean it’s what makes you come back for more. It is like a drug, a release, it takes everything bad from you and cleanses you but when your done you feel withdrawal which I think forces you to go back for more. I don’t think the world would be a very happy place to live in if I couldn’t have that feeling, that release in my life. I for one know that I would most certainly be going around and just groaning the word eeeehhhhhh. So that’s what I think about the world without art being just eh.
