To strive , to seek , to find and not …to yield
Endeavour will not defeat me , but as of just now , buried under a messy carpet of possible text extracts – I just can’t see the trees for the wood.
” dead weight ” as Skin says
” aw right…no need to be nasty to those that do stick around ” replies mental Blister
So I go back to the pile and sift again.
Whose idea was it to have a showcase for second stage endeavour so close after exams and Remote …?
Oh yes ….mine.
But this will not go the way of “a sad fairground attraction” – it will not go gently Into the dark PACE show night .
Let it rage , rage against the dying of my momentarily super overwhelmed creative light .
To strive , to seek ,to find and not to yield !
Isn’t that what I always tell you… ?
That nothing good is easy, sacrifices have to be made , fear can only hold you back , to just hold on and reach higher , one step and then the next …
Okay so if I’m a good teacher I’ll practise what I preach, right ? And find a way to bring 30 of you to the stage in an end of term showcase. Simple as .
We’re among friends …shouldn’t be too hard, a bit of a speech each here , a dance routine there , a stirring movement piece or two , some harmonious and dramatic singing and at the very artistic kernel of it all , that special something you all successfully bring to your Wyndful stage.
Eeeeeeeeeeee Haaaaaaah ! I feel bucked up already.
Oh Me!..Oh Life!
Of the questions of these recurring
Of the endless trains of “the faithless”
Of times filled with ” the foolish ”
What good amid these , O me , O life ?
That we are here
That life exists
That the powerful play goes on and ” I” may contribute a verse
The powerful play goes on and you may contribute …a verse.
Good one…Walt! ( and I don’t mean Disney)
To theatre work my fine dramanauts…Spires greatness wasn’t blocked in an evening rehearsal.
We have about 10 give or take an extra hour.
So we will give it our best “headshot”!
And we need to work fast and furiously, to have our second SPACE mission complete in time for “launch VX1.”
It’ll potentially make a lot more sense to me by Sunday- even though some of you may not make it in that day, I hope the bulk do , there’s lines a plenty to try out for shape and acting size.
The format of said showcase looks likely to be :
one performance piece each, by way of speech or scene
various group performances in certain musical numbers (theme Godspell )
one dance routine ( male and female )
one NTC movement piece – a la Remote
one non NTC physical theatre piece – a la something else
One large cast finale section – a tie up!
Voila … ” a showcase of potential ” par excellence!
Manageable in the time , not too much to stress about (once block is given) and you start to ” bond”.
I will have to cast you as I think ” apt” – time is not going to allow for me to indulge in “readings”.
In a few cases I think I may have to read you against someone , as some ” as performers ” are more broad-based and can move from role to role with ” acting ease ” which can sometimes complicate me!
Less experienced Endeavour ( by that I mean acting wise ) , should expect the opportunity of inclusion in “a scene with others” and be glad of the support this will offer you at this training stage.
Solos are likely to be given to those that more readily understand the “block and deliver” theory of mature acting
In other words ” give me it now and I’ll perform it yesterday”
A skill you can only rely on when you’ve reached the point of truthful acting realisation.
And we have a few , a talented few who naturally have.
The rest can learn from them , look up to them and in the words of the a Big Mac ” be pricked by their vaulting ambition which o’er leaps itself ”
No sour grapes , no chips on surly shoulders , no attitude of despondency – in fact – no “drama kings or queens please” …just a joint willingness to pull togehter for the best showcase possible, in the scant time now available to us.
If the mighty ” SLUG ” can do it – ENDEAVOUR can do it ( and I suspect Alfie and his posse , will have a feature spot, somewhere in here too , even just to warm our audience back up at half time.) a bit of left field culture didn’t hurt anybody,
And on the potentially forgotten subject of “Cultural Lecturettes ” – still on track for Sunday 7th June – I need to know your topics by Sunday
I’ve had one idea sent me so far :
Miss Iona Campbell has chosen to entertain us with the work of dancer/ choreographer Michael Flately of “River Dance” fame.
She’s going to chat to us about his huge influence on traditional Irish Dance and how he kick started a Celtic movement revolution across the globe!
Good choice- I love a bit of a “river dance” and excited to see Miss Campbell in bouncy “red” ringlets and “taps” for the occasion ….
(I Jest ! )
So I would appreciate you filling in your choice on the list on the board outside S1 this Sunday – so I can draw up a programme !
(Keep them short , informative and hopefully for all our sakes entertaining)
On the subject of keeping things entertaining …where did I leave my brain ?
Agh yes …under Lords of Creation just left of Senor Lorca ….
(Enter ….that muse of fierce again!)
