Why watch this ? Well if I was presented with this short but interesting fashion art concept – to show ….who better to turn to than a HOUSE with real class …the House of Dior that is ( maybe better known to some , with the perfume J’adore , featuring model actress Charlize Thieron )
You know the kind of golden existence you only dream of unless you are destined to live the life of “serious” money …
Dior and I
A drama documentary about fashion director “Raf Simons” as he prepares to launch his first collection for Dior and the drama he and his team of “atelier” , go through , just like all the rest of us …leading up to a big show
There is worth in everything , there is a lesson to learn here for your upcoming “project runway” experience
There is much to discuss about the higher end of the fashion market and its place in Art … All griss to the Culture mill …
I personally loved it , I loved the enigmatic presence of the great Christian Dior himself , who occasionally drifted through the film like the ghost he was intended to be
I loved the setting for the show
I adored the clothes that made it to the stage
And I think Art and Fashion are two great allies
Something we will take our muse from for this CAPMON do !
( ps the work of Alexnader McQueen is also worth a look and even “Enfant terrible” of the catwalk – John Galliano )
And for those that really like the whole Fashion and looking good thing take a look at the other drama doc below …which is the basis of the film ” the devil wears Prada with Meryl Streep ”
You can see the parallels a plenty , and in Anna Wintour , Meryl Streep had found her “frosty character ” way !
( Actually – note to self – must watch ” devil wears Prada ” again – great easy watch film – now I’ve watched “September Issue”
But you have to admire this ruthless woman , that has run Vogue magazine for over thirty years – she accepts nothing but the best , no BS and is intolerant of those that can’t deliver what she asks …
( now …who do we know who is a teensy bit like that ?)
Anyway , enjoy these two unusual film recommendations , something more biopic in feel , a change of taste for some I reckon , but equally entertaining , once you realise there is no car chase or romance …only real life
Boys may prefer the “Dior and I” ( as it centres round a man in The fashion world – most designers are men – now why is that I wonder …? )
Ps Grace Coddington is my new Muse heroine – the comment about fighting to let the camera man keep his stomach un- airbrushed is truth gold !
I look forward to perhaps discussing these 2 films with some of you on Friday ?
