You will by now have received the email informing you that the current SPACE audtion project will now be in 2 stages.
The reason for this is explained therein – but also perhaps too many blank staring faces was a consideration that made me rethink entry to SPACE.
ODYSSEY is still stage 1
A voice monologue – as explained and paying passing reference to the SPACE voice booklet that was handed out in the last sessions.
A group movement piece- as detailed in the assessment gudielines and based on Simon Armitages poem ” Out of the Blue”
ENDEAVOUR is stage 2 of the process
An acting – scene
An acting – duologue
A short themed culture lecturette – Q&A
Only those that show potential for SPACE work from ODYSSEY stage 1 -will progress to ENDEAVOUR stage 2
If you cannot naturally enjoy the stage 1 process , the stage 2 work will be redundant.
There is never good acting without the core work of better voice and movement and a broader understanding of theatre.
No one said this would be easy and based on the reaction of some faces recently – to the information given in the sessions – it is better to understand now that SPACE , although extremely alluring in terms of PACE prestige is not going to be the ” cake walk ” imagined.
SPACE is very , very hard work – for good reason
You should therefore at this stage concentrate your energy on solely preparing for the VOICE and MOVEMENT and WRITTEN work needed to pass through ODYSSEY
A journey of exploration into the nuance of Voice :
And also into more productive and creative group movement
And through a written submission that will force you to travel out with your “viewing comfort zone” and to seek out “culture” on another level.
Each Odysseey member will receive a one on one VIVE VOCE with me to discuss their audition pieces and their ongoing intentions in becoming a member of SPACE : these will take place in the week after ODYSSEY Day.
Each candidate is now to be assessed as an individual and as part of a working group.
The Voice pieces will now be presented visibly – not behind a screen as previously discussed
They can be moved but not to the detriment of loss of voice clarity
They should be seen as Speech and Drama extracts
Minimal staging , maximum vocal impact
Any questions on any of the above can be left as comments below
Those who are not asked to move into stage 2 – ENDEAVOUR will be considered for other programmes within PACE and placed according to their current ability level.
See you all on the 15th Feb – ready to actively prepare for your Odysseey project.
