We’re so ready and eager to delight you with our “autumnal” theatre offering; so when you come to see NTC 15 Remote , this week , phones away …and eyes up…on the bigger picture of your own life ahead of you!
Would be amazing to think that all of PACE could share this NTC moment with us – you are the final actor in this piece of Affective Theatre and we can’t wait to appear beside you , to react with you , to listen to you think and then say our lines
This kind of theatre styling , puts its audience at the centre of the Performance – so don’t be afraid to move , to get closer to the action , to feel the raw emotion of the characters aroud you – we won’t hide from you , you’ll turn and we’ll be there …closer still , at eye level , maybe even touch you – to connect – more truth “fully”.
We’re all about the truth in this play – there is no 4th stage wall for either side to retreat behind , for fear of being ” looked at ” – fear of being seen for “who you are”.
You want to get this play ? Then you will need to come right at it and get it yourself.
Hugging the sidelines will always keep you a wall flower here. Planting yourself right at the front of the action , may turn the spotlight on you – in ways you’ve yet to imagine
NTC Remote will rest after Saturday’s final night performance – a breath taken – till our second stage ( at the Royal LYCEUM in Edinburgh ) , then it’s back to the PACE drawing board for creative inspiration …
…how to bring many others on to the drama TREE we’ve established ?
No point taking a negative stance on this either – a smaller “them and us” mentaility , that often plagues young people as a way of coping with each others perceived success – “I’m not in it …so why should I care! ”
The kind of thing that can happens when people hide behind their pace group identity, thinking they are just as good as everyone else , when they should consider that with harder effort , a better attitude and facing the more difficult truth about themselves in their drama , they could do even better.
“The top” is about the most honest you can be with your delivery and in the end – surely nothing else matters when you are trying to be the best you can be here.
Hard though …when you are 12-16 years old , because at this age …everything else becomes more Important and the real stuff , the stuff that matters is een as the ” distraction ”
You will only get more from PACE during this 12-16 ages , when you know that looking up and away from you and your small drama mind set issues , is the way forward to better PACE Times – of that – be certain.
Better comes with a price tag here – your honesty and your passion for the artistic truth is the cost of inclusion.
22 remote PACE may very well be the misguided source of teenage envy right now – but if you think of it this way – 22 PACE are 22 positive sources of youth drama inspiration through the next PACE year at least. Youth actors to look to for a ” drama way to performance better go”
In each cast member on stage in Remote , there is one of you , reflected right back at you : the same issues , the same confused mind set , the same insecurities , but in many cases also – the same talent and potential for change here.
22 on stage in remote were just forced to face themselves head on and to get over themselves enough in 6 short weeks of rehearsal and workshop , to produce this Epic Play.
I wonder if there are people “out there ” who still want this chance as much as 22 did?
Are there any new shoots to add to our tree , albeit greener ” in terms of drama ” foliage to come through from seeing and being part of this “more playful way” in PACE.
Because the next project to follow, will be just as demanding, as uncomfortable and unsettling – a leopard can’t change its spots , just as this artistic director will never change her drama method or straight talking and more direct delivery to her young actors .
Anything else…just isn’t Youth “Theatre” , just isn’t the Kind of youth theatre she envisaged and started back in 1990 and from which the PACE of today must better , so much better onward grow.
Don’t sit back with your ticket and let the lessons you can learn here , wash over you through feeling a bit jealous of the cast and defensive in your ” just audience ” role
Why not ?
…this time next year …it could be you on a bigger National Youth Theatre stage, the rest is just being a teenager!
