Why do we set up PACE blog pages ?
You tell us…
A way to communicate
A way to share
A drama life line
A live creative forum
A community of youth theatrical minds
Reding through a couple of blogs , recently posted by House of Montague members on their active House Blog site, I see the reflective glimpse maybe , of why.
You see ,just because you perform your feelings in the rehearsal room , doesn’t mean you have to turn them off the moment you step outside the drama door.
Actors tend to be 24/7 about their artistic experience ; if not doing it , then certainly thinking about why they are doing it.
It’s part of the “acting process” – to have a way of emotionally unloading how you feel about what you create or have just created afterwards.
“Going to the pub” is a big thing post rehearsals for most performers – social, of course , but also a way of carrying on the often intense and vibrant feelings just experienced in the artistic space.
Now ” going to the pub ” is not an option here !!!
But ” going to the House PAGE ” is?
A way to talk and be social in a more drama conducive environment
Somewhere where FB , Twitter and Instagram , don’t give you the same security and power of self expression.
Where you know, that those signed up for it and reading it – get it too.
Writers are lucky , so are painters , musicians , sculptors , poets …they can go back to their creative page , canvas , instrument , clay or stone, at any time they feel like it.
They can let go the creative muse …then work it again more readily when they feel like it .
For the dancer or the actor – this is not so easy ; especially the actor .
The actor has to wait for the room again , the scene , the line , the move …” Others ” often hold your creative sway.
So talking about it helps…doesn’t it ?
Putting your feelings down in some form , let’s you see how it is working for you personally .
It also lets others see, that it is making a difference to your performance. Something they can relate to and act upon when next you meet
I know that when I hear some of you express yourself more openly, it changes the way I view my artistic work with you.
House Directors will feel the same in this no doubt .
We talk about an actor having 3 great tools to work with
But sometimes we forget to talk about:
Whether you believe you have ‘one’ is not the point.
Call it what you will: the spirit , the want , the passion, the force!
” use your force young Jedi …do or not do …there is no try”
(Sorry, random ” whisper” line, but evokes a bygone Fest memory that serves my dramatic point)
The Soulfulness in which we perform, gives us wings to leap off the higher cliffs we scale and into the ‘divergent’ black hole of the unknown.
Our ‘drama soul’ needs an outlet too – it is more fragile by nature, because it reveals the very heart of our sensitive existence, those more personal parts of us , the stuff we often have to let go , to feel we can truly be free in our performance
In the room there are often and usually others beside us to shade our feelings, as we pretend to let go
As part of larger groups we can comfortably use our voice and bodies and not worry that we are different or pulling focus.
We think therefore “we are there”, in mind , body and spirit?
But the divergent performer will always draw Planet X to their SPACE.
The unknown , the uncharetered destiny , the X factor, the openness others shy from.
And Mhairi, the thread of all this ?
Is to remind you that just being part of the room is often not enough to truly shine – passion needs to be worked at, in all areas of your dramatic life
Being passionate for your suroundings , the people you work with , the things you are taught every-play , the company of like minds that make you feel it’s alright to be YOU.
So use your HOUSE pages better.
Use them as they are intended : to communicate , share and discuss the artistic process you are going through, away from your dramatic inSPIREing play ground
No one will judge you unkindly, who is really passionate about this youthful project – if they do , then you know they are just jealous of your emotional intellect, Verona integrity and more creative intent.
It is easy to attack the soul of someone’s drama passion , because it is the one thing that makes us special and marks us as different – a very enviable PACE commodity.
Divergence serves to teach us all a lesson – you can follow the PACE crowd or become your own Spires self with the creative blood of higher Theatre purpose.
The next SPACE needs those that know their “mind” and don’t mind that others don’t get it.
Verona will shield you from the rain of drama anonymity in PACE for a while , but it can also shade you from truly becoming Spires golden , unless you step out from behind the big stripy umbrella of everyone else and let us see , hear and feel who you really are.
I have to say I know far more who MONTAGUE are currently made of…their interaction is quite evident and really good to hear.
Capulet are maybe still keeping things closer to their family treasured chest – just be careful you don’t lock yourself in it forever.
But maybe it’s a case of not wanting to show for fear of sounding anything ?
“Sans eyes , sans teeth , sans everything” gets us all ….in the end.
Hop over Mr Magpie , it seems , you’re not alone…
