As the title suggests, we are now all about the play…
One Performance, One Playlet, A Double Bill and a National Theatre Entry…and all “connected” through their love of PLAY.
You need to understand that any PACE performer is only as good as their last show – the stage confidence may appear ” there” but one can always get better, push harder , STOP FOLLOWING, try something different – right up to the very emotional END.
Just because you do well in Project Panto doesn’t mean you can ACT in anything.
Panto is a learning curve for all sorts of reasons…but it is just that ” a fun and happy learning curve”. The Acting is limited to a stronger performance through choral song and dance. The Chekhov factor is missing somewhat and although you can say you acted well on your panto stage … you cannot say …you now know… how to act…
A good play is a good start to understanding the finer points of real acting
A good play gives you a road map and proper directions to where it is you have to ultimately go.
The recent PACE Heritage auditions were great because it gave a broader sweep of talent the opportunity to try out for a part in a really good play and to realise that nothing is ever a done deal..that every project is as unique as it needs to be and that the blend of people in it, has to be right, for the performance to succeed, and for the acting to begin to really happen.b
Emails are now coming out to a great many of you who have maybe been around the Spires Theatre Scene last term. Too many people – for fewer projects I’m afraid.
The Spires Theatre Scene is not a group making drama-machine. It does not just churn out workshops term in and term out for the sake of just having them.
The Spires Theatre Scene is about bespoke drama for a bolshier performance generation.
The Projects are the important thing in STS not the creation of registers of PACE members who have to be placed; that is why some of you have been allocated other groups as opposed to certain workshops, programmes or casts.
The stage you are at demands this extra detail and to be a part of any STS work you must understand that what is being offered is in your best interest.
The play will happen in group work, performance workshop, performance programme, cast acting because the PACE Tutors and Directors you have working with you this term – will make it happen .
You do not have to worry about your “group” place – worry about being good enough to keep up with the PACE!
PROGRESS is made with every group, workshop, class and rehearsal you attend in PACE – the name of your session is for our benefit – the work being done therein is for yours.
Acting begins with trusting your director – in this case – we really do know best.
DID YOU NOTICE THE IMAGE WITH THIS POST? (The subtle twist in the tale)
Maybe you need to start looking at opportunities that come your way with better eyes this year. There is always more to learn when you come at things from a different angle!
…and so to our STS Spring Season
Spring Theatre Workshop – a VIBRANT Performance
Spring Theatre Programme – an EDGY Playlet
