Behold your Home …at least a part of your home for the next 3 months : The Sewers of Panto-land await their Christmas drama. They look pretty small in the grand scheme of our designer Rebecca’s hand in the picture , but gives you some idea of the visual concept of “Victorian Architecture” for the set of this year’s pantomime “play”.
It’s all just a bit Great Expectations at the moment, isn’t it? A cast ready to sing their Christmas Carol, on their Bleak House stage; nothing much to put in the
Pickwick Papers, not even a hint yet, of something special, in the Ye old familiar Panto curiosity shop !
Punful Dickens Novels aside …consider this: like any good book , any timeless classic , the first few pages always reveal the wonderful story to come!
And for you , Thursday will see the first few pages of PACE’s Beauty & the Beast 2014 turned over…
The 4 teams for this year are at last coming together to remember PACE Panto past , to see PACE Panto present and to prepare for their PACE Panto future to come.
Will Eleanor eagerly enliven her bejewelled pick pocketing brood ?
Will Iona instinctively inspire her ever faithful darting canine crew ?
Will Abby pleasingly action her ‘eager for more’ lovely workhouse army ?
Will Gwen clearly consider her familiar gang to be well and truly , one of us ?
Oh me oh my …oh UMPAPA , tis such dramatic food glorious food for our festive extravaganza, that I can smell the figgy pudding and first roasted chestnuts from here!!
But with such mirth, show merriment and Yuletide banter comes also an ominous Panto message cloaked in dramatic black for us to heed !
No not the beast! …but a lesson , a rule , a legendary thing to always keep in mind…
That pointing finger of realisation, the scary business of other more personal show that makes us stop and look to our own theatre behaviour in any stage matters.
The message delivered loud and clear for all to hear :
“Leave your youthful baggage at the door , and hunker down for a cold hard time this festive project season – for the light of every Panto will only burn bright for the hardiest pantoers that can survive the very bleakest of times…”
Those that choose to think of this as just easy fun , soon realise that they are in a very different scene from everyone else.
And…Sacrifices have to be made along the Panto way to ensure you don’t end up somewhere different from everyone else, come opening night…
A change of direction for many newbies , a way of changing what we already know , for the “experienced” rest.
Just because you’ve done it before doesn’t mean it will come easy again…we all have to adapt and move on to grow ..
Each Panto brings it’s creative challenges – last year it was the incredibly fast and precise moves of Russian culture.
This year, although ” ever so humble ” in its style ; a Panto ACT that is only worthy of a classic BBC period drama set on the more musical West End Stage.
“Acting Big, but with the sincerest heartfelt character ”
And if that’s not enough to make you quake slightly in your well worn drama safety chains, then consider the fact that this Panto , the 26th of its kind , will attempt to remove its’ audience from present day modernism to ‘olde Worlde’ charm in the mere blink of a Victorian Christmas Card try!
Now that’s a theatrical feat Houdini himself would rise to – to make one reality disappear and a new one begin, right before the audiences very eyes – MAGIC !!!!!
Thursday is a landmark day in more ways than one – not only are we changing our future acting direction in PACE Pantoland, but perhaps our very own FUTURE in our everyday life…
Maybe it is auspicious we meet for the first time on the eve of what will be such a meaningful day for the whole of SCOTLAND.
And what ever way the country’s Referendum vote goes …be sure that for YOU – YES… – your PANTO experience will go straight to CHANGE , the moment you step through that Thursday Night SPIRES 1 door!
Be ready for the change you want to see happen, be ready for your PACE future!
Carpe PANTO Diem !
