A strange title for an early Christmas Blog but one which fits this post.
Now that the craziness of PACE Panto Opening is behind us and our PACE Christmas Fayre is almost here – we can perhaps now begin to look forward to next term and what is coming our theatrical way…in 2014!
Well let’s start with this shall we…
Maybe this will help?
That’s it you’ve nearly go it…
Come and see…
It’s a long time since we’ve run a theatre trip …but when we discovered The National Theatre’s Production of WARHORSE was coming to Scotland – we had to go – this is one of those shows that makes everything ” just fall into place “.
What do I mean by that?
If you are in any shape or form “theatre” you will know what I mean…
This is not a show to miss – this is a show to change your outlook on what is possible on stage…forever.
Living where we do – we do not often get the chance to see really GREAT THEATRE – the kind of shows that “wring you out” in the “inside” – the kind of staging that moves you to tears – the kind of performance that lets you emerge form the Theatre – Praising the ACTING of a HORSE.
When I saw this play at the NEW LONDON THEATRE 3 years ago – I think I have never since been so inspired by a piece of theatre.
There is nothing about this production that is not to like – there is only wonder to gain. How they do it …is the one magic thing …that leaves you breathless for more…
Joey( our Hero) – is the play – equal in emotional terms to the actors who play beside him. In the film version of this play – we clearly see Joey is a beautiful horse – on the stage however – you will see Joey as an ” equine soul” .
WARHORSE by Michael Morpurgo ( for those that have read the book) is a simple tale – the life of a country horse – born free – but made to fight in a pointless war – and in the end ? Well that would be telling…
You don’t have to be a “horse lover” to get this…this is a play that touches the humanity in all of us.
There is never a dry eye in the house – something reaches inside you and grabs your heart before you realise…before the sobs and smiles and laughter and anger begin…
WARHORSE is a show that is now playing all over the world for those very reasons – “Joey” keeps the true spirit of theatre alive for all who see his tale.
We have fortunately managed to secure a SMAlL NUMBER of seats for an evening performance of this show in early February 2014 – with a post show discussion by the National afterwards.
WARHORSE is being shown at the Festival Theatre in Edinburgh and although the seats we have secured are in the upper circle – this will still allow you to experience the wonder , spectacle and theatre magic of this ground breaking Theatrical Masterpiece. Even with a kind of bird’s eye view.
The cost and details of the production will be detailed shortly in an accompanying post by Colleen. Tickets will be on a first come first served basis and all who are now interested in this forthcoming THEATRE trip should now note their interest with her by email ( email@example.com) or by contacting her at PACE. This should be done as soon as possible.
The title of this post ” SANTA GOES NATIONAL ” gives a ” wee” clue to how you might fund this trip yourself – Christmas is soon upon us and “Santa” may be looking for ideas for stocking fillers – this trip might fit snugly into your Christmas Wish List – alongside the ONESIE , Slipper Socks and giant Toblerone!
Your Show Ticket and BUS through to Edinburgh are reasonably priced for a top West End Show – or why not use any Christmas Money you may get to count towards it. A small deposit may be asked for to secure your place.
(Contact Colleen for any further details on this)
Chances to see these shows come once in a blue moon unless you regularly visit London and in most cases people are most likely to choose to visit a popular musical.
West End Musicals are great – in cases like Wicked – fabulous even. But to live soley on a diet of musicals and Gleeful shows – is to explore only a tiny part of what THEATRE is and what it can do for YOU.
This year we took our NATIONAL THEATRE CONNECTIONS play entry ” THE GUFFIN to a bigger LONDON stage and suddenly our theatre world just become so much more interesting and enticing and WONDER-full.
You have to learn to open your eyes to a bigger picture of how it can be – to grow as a performer and as a human being.
Here’s hoping next year – a whole lot of PACE budding performers meet a horse called jOEY, break themselves in to their ” FIRST ACTED PLAY ” …maybe even find their golden acting prize in a nationalistic enclosure called HERITAGE.
You know what they say (and fitting as it is as an ending here)
” you can lead a horse to water…but you can’t make it drink…”
I have learned over the years that despite trying to bring all this to you – unless you really want to – like perhaps reading this blog – you will let it slip past you unnoticed.
But please…please…this time…
Be the horse that is thirsty …be the horse that wants to jump higher…be the horse that wants to gallop through their PACE life and reach the finishes the line – First at the NATIONAL.
That’s the horse I want to bet on…that’s a horse that is ‘the course’ of a brighter future.
Ps – Joey has his eye on YOU….!
